I know Arnold Tsang and Ben Zhang are so immensely talented, as I love their OW1 designs, it just frustrates me that Blizzard is wasting their talents on this. They made these modellers spend likely days on a brand new winston model that most people won't even tell the difference on.Īnyway I just wanted to rant, I'm just annoyed because I feel like this is just more of them trying to shoehorn meaningless content to justify calling it a sequel when their tean could be used so much more effectively. It feels like an incredibly shoddy attempt at forcing fake new content, wasting the modelers valuable time that could be going to making new hero models or hero skins. They have all worn the same outfits for the past 6 years (At least according to storm rising), and yet in one year everyone changes completely? At least add a timeskip or something. Lore-wise, it also barely even makes sense for them all to have such drastic redesigns. Had he released with that look in OW1, he would be seen as significantly less unique. Genji's redesign is literally only cool because we've seen how he looks without clothes already as a badass cyborg ninja. Take a good look at the redesigns on their own, and ask yourself if you would have found these characters as interesting if they launched with these looks instead of the ones from OW1. Lucio went from a scrappy rebellious DJ activist to a human monster energy drink. They replaced what was honestly incredibly creative character design for shinier Valorant.ĭon't get me wrong, some of the designs aren't even bad, like Widowmaker's, Genji's, and Lucio's, they just don't fit the aesthetic of the hero anymore. Mercy got a fuckin Karen cut and Meis new look is also droopy and saggy, and Baptiste now looks like a pom-pom. The hair of the characters also just looks like ass. I swear, for most of the characters, they just slapped on those matte armor plates Zarya and Sigma have everywhere, put a beard on the male characters and called it a day. It would be okay if they're improvements, but most of them incredibly generic (reinhardt, winston) or completely change the heroes aesthetic (lucio). Even the least interesting OW1 design, which I would have to say is Reinhardt, is incredibly recognizable.Īnd what do they do for overwatch 2? Change the only part of the game that wasn't broken. One of the best aspects of overwatch was their character design, with not just one but MANY heroes being genuinely iconic designs (tracer, mercy, widowmaker, D.Va, genji, cassidy, the list goes on.). I'll be honest, I really dislike most of them.
